The EMDR UK Association’s busy East Anglia regional group is delighted to welcome Dr Jamie Marich back to the UK on a further training visit , picking up and taking forward Dr Mel Temple’s fabulous day with us in Ely in Spring 2018 on working with dissociation.

Jamie in Norwich, April 2017

As EMDRIA-accredited Trainer and Consultant based in Ohio, USA, and author of several books on EMDR Therapy, Jamie is rapidly establishing a reputation as one of EMDR’s leading international trainers.

In April 2017 she inspired us in Norwich with a day on Making EMDR Simple, and this time, she’s bringing for the first time to the UK a brand-new workshop debunking myths around dissociation and giving us a practical and sensitive orientation to how the dissociative mind works.

What she describes as a highly interactive workshop will give participants a primer on working with grounding skills in the  stabilisation and preparation phases of EMDR, with special attention given to using expressive arts and mindfulness-focused strategies.

Of special interest, participants will explore their own dissociative profile and internal system of parts as illustration of the theory of structural dissociation.

Jamie will introduce strategies to help translate this knowledge into EMDR therapy practice settings, where we seek to make the best clinical decisions possible, particularly in treatment planning   and case conceptualisation.

On completion of her training, Jamie tells us that we’ll be able to:

  • Develop deeper insight into dissociation within a trauma-focused approach and understand the multi-faceted , prismatic manner in which signs of dissociation may manifest in EMDR therapy.
  • Understand  five common myths about working with dissociative clients, with three of these being specific to EMDR therapy .
  • To implement at least two strategies from expressive arts therapy and mindfulness-informed approaches into EMDR’s early phases (stabilisation / preparation), particularly for grounding and building awareness and for safely concluding EMDR therapy  sessions.
  • To be able to apply two-to-three strategies for enhancing case conceptualisation and managing abreactions.
  • To experience decreased fear and increased personal confidence in working with dissociative clients in EMDR therapy.

Do join us! And note that at the old Sugar Beet Factory Social Club (no beet expected to be piled up nearby – the factory is now closed), we have oodles of space, so with luck won’t need to restrict numbers.
